The staff was unfailingly helpful and friendly. Breakfast was plentiful, and included in my room rate since I mentioned that I followed them on Twitter when booking with them directly. While it faced the plaza, the double set of windows made it nearly soundproof - and whatever street noise did come through was easily masked by a simple white noise app on my phone (which is something that everyone who complains about noisy hotel rooms in the middle of large cities should know about). My single room on the 4th floor was spotlessly clean and well appointed with a small balcony (great views!) and one of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept on in any of my travels. The location is excellent - a short walk from the Sol metro stop on a small and lively plaza that’s no more than a 20 minute walk to nearly every point of interest in central Madrid. It’s hard to say too many good things about this place. This was my first visit to Madrid and I am very glad to have discovered Hostal Persal. But not a room I would seek out again as a grown up.… This is a place I would not hesitate to stay if I was in my 20s, traveling rough and looking for a good deal in the perfect location. Right in the heart of things, 2 blocks from Puerta del Sol (and its Metro station), surrounded by street life and great restaurants and bars. On the plus side, staff was friendly, the room did have an individual A/C control, and the bathroom was larger and nicer than you'd expect. This particular room was one of a ring of rooms at the top of a large open stairway from the ground floor lobby, which acted as a sort of megaphone/echo chamber for everyone coming up from the lobby at all hours (we brought ear plugs-not our first European budget travel rodeo). But overall, the vibe was of a slightly elevated dorm room. You can tell management was trying to pretty it up with some nice Mondrian-style decor. Our double room (#105) was pretty bare bones-2 small, hard beds, only one functioning electrical outlet under the desk, and a view out the window of the elevator shaft. the breakfast room was very welcoming.įinally, not only did the entire hotel infrastructure meet the expectations, but the kindness of all the staff, both at the reception and at breakfast, was simply fantastic! For both reasons and for the great experience spent there, on a possible return to Madrid, the Hostal Persal will certainly be the place to stay again! With a wide choice of breads, pastries, cheese, ham, chorizo, boiled eggs, cereals, jam, fruit, fruit salad, yogurt, coffee, teas, etc. The bathroom was also perfect with a good shower area. In the closet in the hallway, there was the personal safe deposit. In addition to the television, it also had a small desk with a chair, an individual sofa and a stool to put your suitcase. The room, overlooking the square, was very spacious with two beds joined together forming a double bed. The check-in was quick, efficient and courteous.
